BREATH PRACTICES FOR WELLNESS + WELL-BEING
Breath is essential to life. It is the first thing we do when we are born and the last thing we do when we leave. In between that time, we take about half a billion breaths. What we may not realize is that the mind, body, and breath are intimately connected and can influence each other. Our breathing is influenced by our thoughts, and our thoughts and physiology can be influenced by our breath. Learning to breathe consciously and with awareness can be a valuable tool in helping to restore balance in the mind and body…Plus, support overall wellness & immunity!
Researchers have documented the benefits of a regular practice of simple, deep breathing which include:
Reduced anxiety and depression
- Lower/stabilized blood pressure
- Increased energy levels
- Muscle relaxation
- Decreased feelings of stress and overwhelm
In the medical community, there is a growing appreciation for the positive impact that deep breathing can have on the physiology, both in the mind and the body. According to the research, many of these beneficial effects can be attributed to reducing the stress response in the body. {Chopra Center}

PRACTICES FOR WELLNESS + WELL-BEING
This workshop will share accessing mobility and stress management through stretching and releasing tension in the muscles surrounding the hip joints. Outside of our physical habits, the muscles around the hips are often tight in response to habitual environmental and mental stresses. Through efficient stretching of the hips, you can release this stored stress and calm the mind. Fortunately the benefits from “hip opening” yoga poses and somatic practices can lead to immediate relief of this muscular tension and with practice lead to increased mobility and better posture.
Therapeutic Essential Workshops offer you guidance to work slowly and mindfully to explore new ways of moving that bring more freedom in your body and promote an understanding of how your body works. Whether you are dealing with pain resulting from an accident, an injury, experiencing chronic pain, or hold stress-related tensions, you will benefit by working at your own level.

Turi Nevin-Turkel & Jane Johnson are teaming for this Integrative Therapeutic Essentials Workshop…
Chronic back pain has become something of an epidemic in our modern American culture…Our lives are too busy to stop and deal with each tense situation or problem that may arise during any given day, so we push the tension aside until later when, hopefully, we’ll be better able to deal with it. But more often than not we end up burying it deep within our body’s handy storage bins: the neck, shoulders, middle back, lower back and hips. This stored tension can often result in weakness, exhaustion, or chronic back pain.
Come explore somatic practices that are intentionally slow and exploratory, which invites us to feel
into our body and learn to move more efficiently. These mindful practices can help us correct movement patterns that hold tension in the nervous systems and muscles. Uncover and understand common causes for pain occurring in the lower back and hips joints o Explore gentle, somatic-based practices to increase mobility and learn to relieve pain through mindful movement o Experience mindfulness meditation, which has been shown to help alleviate chronic low back pain and improve function over usual care alone.

What is Reiki
Reiki is a Sanskrit word which means cosmic energy (Rei – cosmos and Ki – energy). Usui/Tibetan Reiki is a simple technique to learn. It is passed from a Reiki Master, called Teacher to a Student with a series of attunements. Reiki person is using the Universal Life Force Energy to promote the body internal healing system and to develop spiritually. Once a person is initiated in Reiki it is for lifetime.
The first degree opens the energy channel and permits the student to channel Reiki mainly at the physical level, both for himself and for others. It consists of one initiation in the Usui Tibetan system. After the initiation, the student may note a subtle energy flowing through his hands. This can be perceived in various ways, including heat, coolness, tickling, buzzing, or just a strange feeling in the hands. Sometimes it takes a period of time after the initiation before the student feels the energy. This level is open to anyone. No previous experience or preparation is required. It is usually taught in one weekend. The initiation connects the student’s energy system to the Universal Energy. Energy blockages are released, balancing and harmonising the major energy centres known as chakras. The initiation opens the central energy channel leading from the crown of the head to the bottom of the spine. It connects the student to the Universal Energy permanently, allowing him to channel the energy whenever he wishes. At first, the amount of energy channelled after the initiation can vary considerably, but the more the student uses Reiki, the more constant the energy becomes. In this level, the energy is 80-90% on the physical level. The remainder being on the mental/emotional and spiritual levels. The second level opens the energy channel and permits the student to channel Reiki mainly at the physical level, both for himself and for others. With Level 1 & 2 you will be able to heal yourself and others.

Come and Experience Easy, Effortless and Flowing Movement – The Paradox of Flowing and Weight
As Dr. Feldenkrais wrote in Higher Judo, “We aim to further adult individual independence from gravitation”. In this weekend workshop we will look towards improving this independence from the pull of gravity.
Moti has developed new ATM lessons and concepts, going through the stages of development, from the baby’s basic position lying on the floor, to adult erect posture and movement in daily activity in a changing environment.
Testimonials from last year’s workshop:
“Improved stability, turning more easily – seeing the world in a new way.”
“I’m a Feldenkrais practitioner and this was such a treat to attend a workshop where all I had to do was pay attention to my own movements – I felt so fluid and alive afterwards.”
“I feel like I could dance for hours after this!”
“It was all I had hoped for and more – Moti is a wonderful teacher. I am walking more easily, and I enjoyed the exciting lessons. I would absolutely come again!”
” I have been taken aback by Moti’s ability to teach ATM lessons that are “beginner lessons” In such a profound way that I am having a completely novel experience.”
“I was very touched by Moti speaking about how he works with seniors, and he makes it clear that there is an entire range of usefulness to everyone in all of these movements.”
“Moti’s teaching style is how I imagine Moshe Feldenkrais’ teaching style was like!”
“It’s been really great – I love how he brought in the martial arts and explained it so clearly. I love Moti!”
We will explore more of Moshe’s genius work, discovering and using our real potential and power to move effortlessly and without strain.
Although it will be a challenging weekend, everyone, no matter his/her age or body condition, will safely experience and learn new movements and situations, and gradually improve their Stability, Balance and Orientation. Learn more efficient and effortless action in everyday situations.
You will come away feeling more stable, balanced and powerful, without engaging unnecessary muscular activity.
This is part of the Synergy Project – the Synergy of Martial Arts and the Feldenkrais Method®.
Moti Nativ, a martial artist and Feldenkrais practitioner, has taught at a center for the Elderly in Tel Aviv, working with students whose age averages 80.
